- With my edit I decided to focus on how oblivious Mr Welch's and Byron's characters were throughout the production, despite the whole class were gradually going missing one by one, both of them seem completely clueless that anything is happening, hence the reason why my character says "Sir are you completely unaware of what's going on?" and Byron is sat just completely clueless! This is the main focus of my production because I wanted my audience feel frustrated that the two characters don't understand what's happening but also find this funny.
- I wanted to highlight the idea that the reason why Byron's character didn't go missing was because he was watching a 'Shrek' trailer whilst the rest of the class were on task watching horror trailers and the catalyst of the rest of the class going missing was because of watching horror.
- I wanted the overall impression to be quite ironic and funny, despite the horror genre we were going for as a class, my production didn't fit that as much as others in my class did. I expanded on the more humorous element of my production by adding a completely contrasting song in the background, a bit of David Bowie.
- The post production elements I added were glitch effects across the screen whenever a student went missing, this had the effect of blending the sharp shots of students disappearing and helped to emphasise the disappearances. Also, I added some music in the background which had the effect of making the production more light hearted. I cross-cutted any clips that were too long or didn't suit my production, this had the effect of helping my video make more sense with the ideas that I had for it. Also, I used titling at the start ('The Disappearance') and I put a screen roll at the end which justified the director, producer and the cast members.
- The part of my edit that I think works the best is my use of the glitch effect as it helps to put the production into context and develops the irony that Mr Welch is completely unaware of what's happening. It also forms a bit more of a structure for the production as it clearly highlights who is going missing and when.
From this task, I've learnt the basics of using Premier Pro and how to add sound/ screen effects. I've learnt how to put together a sequence of clips by importing them to form a short production. I've also learnt how to produce a plot for a piece of media and the conventions of making engaging characters and finally I've learnt that with some set footage, everyone can interpret it in different ways to produce different productions.
Personally, I don't think that my production is amazing because it was my first time using any editing software, but I feel I did capture the key features of what our class decided the plot to be: Students in a media class going missing one by one with a completely oblivious teacher and classmate.
For future media productions, I would like to improve upon my editing skills. In the class drama my sound was very unbalanced and either too loud or too quiet. I would like to get more practice at taking the footage that I have and doing something clever and different to usual with it. Finally, I would like to explore everything that Premier Pro will be able to add to my post-production (including sound effects, music, screen effects, filters etc)
